Donna Ladd and Kimberly Griffin talked to Jackson native Maisie Brown, a college student, activist, MFP advisory board member and Youth Program Director at the Institute for Democratic Education. Brown helped organize the 2020 Black Lives Matter protest in Jackson after the death of George Floyd. Attendance soared, and the show of force from young people in Mississippi helped encourage the state Legislature to remove the previous state flag with its Confederate emblem.
